The word "amigurumi" originates from Japan and means "crocheted or knitted stuffed toy". Traditional amigurumi toys are small and have disproportionately large head. Today however, we tend to use the term loosely and widely to describe any type of knitted or crocheted softies. One thing that hasn't changed though is that amigurumi absolutely must be super cute!
Making amigurumi toys doesn't require any sophisticated skills. That is because we make most of the toy's parts by working around and using single crochet. It doesn't take an awful lot of effort to master those basic techniques. Therefore, anyone and everyone can learn it fairly quickly and enjoy making their own soft toy! How cool is that?
