This crochet dog pattern was initially a part of the Poppy and Puppy amigurumi project. Since I’ve been asked multiple times for amigurumi puppy, I decided to share Peanut with you.
I will first provide details about supplies needed and then lay out the pattern. As always, if you have any questions or comments then share those with me either via email at cogito@cottonnutty.com, or in the comments section below the post.

Supplies needed for the crochet dog
Yarn
For making our crochet dog I used Scheepjes Catona following colors and quantities:
- 106 „Snow white” (I will call it ‚white’) – 1 skein
- 110 „Jet black” (I will call it ‚black’) – few meters
- 157 „Root beer” (I will call it ‚beer’) – 0.3 skein
Yarn Substitutes
If you cannot (or do not want to) use Catona, then you can try to find a replacement. Based on my experience I would recommend using Schachenmayr Catania, Camilla Cotton, Patons Grace or Alize Bahar.
If you need a hand with choosing alternatives, then you may find my blog post on yarn weights useful.

- Crochet hook: 3mm (US D-3)
- Scissors,
- Stitch markers,
- Toy stuffing, (Note: if you wish to explore some more options, including eco alternatives, then have a look at my Stuffing for Toys blog post),

Fasten off. Weave in yarn end securely. Embroider eyes, nose and muzzle using black yarn. Use white to create eyes and nose shining.

Eears
Make 2. Use beer yarn. For each ear leave yarn tail at the beginning and at the end. We will use both for sewing later on.
- Chain 6
- Row 1: Beginni9ng from the second chain from the hook 5 sc (5), ch1, turn
- Rows 2 through 6: 5 sc (5), ch1, turn
- Row 7: decr, 3 sc (4), ch1, turn
- Row 8: decr, 2 sc (3), ch1, turn
- Row 9: decr, 1 sc (2), ch1, turn
- Row 10: decr (1), ch1, turn
- Row 11: 1 sc, ch1
Now crochet around the triangle. Make 27 sc (11 for each side plus 5 for the bottom).
Attach ears to the crochet dog’s head. On the top, slightly towards the back and diagonally. Now fold the ears towards eyes and attach ear ends to the head.

Attach head to the neck. Twist the head slightly toward either side to create ‘inquisitive silly’ expression.

Tail
Use white yarn. Leave yarn tail at the beginning and at the end.
- Chain 3
- Row 1: Beginning from the second chain from the hook 2 sc (2), ch1, turn
- Rows 2 through 4: 2 sc (2), ch1, turn
- Row 5: decr (1), ch1, turn
- Rows 6 and 7: 1 sc (1), ch1, turn
- Row 8: 1 sc (1), ch1
- Now crochet around the triangle:
- 2 sc, 2 decr, 6 sc, 2 decr, 2 sc
Fold the tail along the longer axis and sew both edges. Attach tail to the body.

Collar
Chain 19. Beginning from the second chain from the hook 18 sc. Place it around the Peanut’s neck and join both ends (you can sew it up or join with slip stitch). Leave long tail which will serve as a lead. Make a loop at the end.
Note: Depending on a yarn you are using you may need to adjust the length of the collar. Just try it out and if need be make it shorter or longer. As a rule, your foundation chain in this case should be longer by one than the target number of stitches in row 1.
And we are done! I really hope you enjoyed the pattern.

Adorable and so happy to “meet” you on craft schooling Sunday! The party resumes this Sunday, hope to see you there!
Hi! Thank you and see you soon!
hi,
there is an error in row 6 by the head:
Row 6: 12 sc, change color to beer, 2 inc, change color to white, 2 inc, change color to beer, 2 inc (24)
how should it actually be?
thank you 🙂
Hi Katji,
apologies but I don’t see where the error is?
In row #5 you make 18 sc. In row 6 you make 24 sc which consist of 12 sc and 3 rounds of double increases (‘2 inc’), that is 12 + 3 x (2 x 2 sc) = 12 + 12 = 24. It also reconciles to row #5. Would you please shed some more light onto this? Am I not seeing something?
Many thanks!
G
